Dannii Moon

Freelance Social Media Strategist

What’s your current position & how did you reach here?

Dannii Moon - I’m a freelance Social Media Strategist, I work remotely for a few different companies, mainly start-ups across the U.K. I’ve been working in social media for 12 years and have a background of social media marketing, community management and recruitment.

What will success look like for you in your work in the next few weeks?

Dannii Moon - I’m working with a start-up that will be launching in a few weeks. It’s really exciting to be working with a brand that’ll change the way people will view the market of health, fitness and alternative medicine.

Which social media platform is working best for your brand at the moment? Why do you think that is?

Dannii Moon - Each of my clients have different channels where their social works best, but without a doubt for most of my clients it’s Instagram. I think it’s working well for everyone who’s using it to the best of their advantage. Visually my food client does well and food bloggers often engage with them which works exceptionally well. Other channels that do well is Facebook and LinkedIn.

What are you actively focused on learning about these days and how?

Dannii Moon - How to maximise the use of groups on Facebook. They’re an excellent way to create a more connected environment with your fans. Facebook pages do well, but they don’t seem to actively engage people as much, so finding a way to form a better connection with followers is a part of my social strategy at the moment.

What has been your biggest challenge recently and how did you overcome it?

Dannii Moon - Time management. I work from home with a toddler. I’m very organised and on the ball but managing time as a stay-at-home mum to a 2yo and working can be difficult sometimes.

What is your #1 tip for a newbie in marketing?

Dannii Moon - Educate yourself. Research, actively become part of the conversation, seek out social media internships, get creative, have fun. It’s an industry that so many people are now part of so you need to stand out. Educate yourself on what’s happening, what’s working, why or why not. Then get creative.

How do you prioritize your tasks/projects for the day/week? Do you use any special methods or frameworks?

Dannii Moon - Lists! It drives my partner crazy. I write a list for everything- shopping, holidays, work etc. That and I use Asana, a great project management tool to better organise my day. It’s also a good tool to let my clients know what I’m doing.

How have you / your brand been engaging with your customers/audience/users/fans lately?

Dannii Moon - With my food client, blogger outreach has transformed the way we connect with our audience and customers. We have been doing so for about a year and we now have a really great group of people who are like family.

What are the best tips you were ever given when conducting a social media campaign?

Dannii Moon - Start with a clear goal. Research and plan every stage. You need to know what rules apply for each platform too. Have an SEO goal as well as a social one. Gather data, use social listening in your plan too. Be fully prepared for every outcome.
