Content is king, but marketing is Ace!

What’s your current position & how did you reach here?
Apurba Rath - My current position is of a director. Just after my senior secondary school exams, I started to write (professionally) and it kept drawing me more and more into content writing & strategizing. But then, I found that to make my content reach the target audience, I need to market. Thus, began my marketing journey. Starting from learning on the job to talking courses and reading blogs, I devoted myself learning everything I could in marketing. My best friend was and is a designer and we decided to couple our skills to build a marketing agency aiming to strategize to the last pixel/dot possible. And that is my journey to being a director at WirSay.
What will success look like for you in your work in the next few weeks?
Apurba Rath - The next few weeks are going to be exciting. As we are going to start a new project. In our test phase, the response was outstanding. So, now we are ready to accelerate!
Which social media platform is working best for your brand at the moment? Why do you think that is?
Apurba Rath - For us, the best platform currently is Twitter. Who doesn't love to find humour along with some information? Twitter is helping us convey our viewpoint and working methods better (so far) than other platforms.
What have you found to be the most effective marketing tactic/platform, beyond social media?
Apurba Rath - We believe that an effective marketing medium is one that inform you about the latest challenges of your target audience and let's you interact with them. Thus, we find that seminars, meetups are the best marketing tactic.
What are you actively focused on learning about these days and how?
Apurba Rath - These days, I am actively learning about advanced technical SEO and in building a strategy to find the ideal interactive content for various platforms. Thanks to internet, there is so much you can learn. I am also taking the help of the search engine guides and other books to teach me about advanced technical SEO. Coming to finding the ideal content for platforms to market at, I am using my extensive research skills.
If you had the time to add one more project or tactic to your marketing, what would it be, and why?
Apurba Rath - If I had time to add one more project then it would be reading about every cuisine's origin across the world and blog about them. Why? Because, as certified a nutritionist and blogger, it's a dream!
What has been your biggest challenge recently and how did you overcome it?
Apurba Rath - My biggest challenge recently is work-time management. When I have a lot of work, I have lot less time and when I have time, I forget what I have to do! A simple trick, it takes 21days to make an activity a habit. Made a schedule, forced myself to stick to it and bingo!
What is your #1 tip for a newbie in marketing?
Apurba Rath - Work and money will come and go. Learn to appreciate time and take time to learn things. Master them. Also, look after your health.
What is a key metric you’re measuring these days, and why?
Apurba Rath - Key metric I measure is engagement. In my blogs, traffic. Engagement gives me an idea on what is appreciated by the people and what not. That helps me and my team to refine our work. Traffic, for obvious reasons!
How do you prioritize your tasks/projects for the day/week? Do you use any special methods or frameworks?
Apurba Rath - I use two things. A to-do list and Agile framework. These two frameworks, when done right, are more than enough to structure your tasks and projects throughout the day and of course your week.
If you could choose to implement only one marketing tactic for the next 3 months, what would you choose to do?
Apurba Rath - I would use one-to-one interactions.
How have you / your brand been engaging with your customers/audience/users/fans lately?
Apurba Rath - Our customer base generally is active on email conversations. We send them newsletters, details and happenings through mail. I believe its convenient and reliable.
What problem are you focused on solving for your customers/audience/users/fans? What is their biggest need that you (or your company) are helping with?
Apurba Rath - The biggest need of our customers is visibility and we help them being visible to their target audience.
What are the best tips you were ever given when conducting a social media campaign?
Apurba Rath - Your audience are human beings. Engage with them like one and curate visuals & content which makes them feel like they matter. Golden words they are!
